Why a CRNA Leadership Certification Exists
CRNA training does an excellent job on clinical competence and passing the NCE. It leaves a gap around the human side of leading a room — de-escalating a tense OR, mentoring a new hire, holding boundaries with a demanding surgeon, protecting one's own nervous system across a long career. The Mindful Leadership Certification exists to fill that gap for the residency-to-practice transition.
Who the Program Is Built For
The program is designed for nurse anesthesia residents in the second half of their program and new-grad CRNAs in the first year of practice. That is the window when leadership habits form: the transition from being supervised to being trusted, from executing a plan to shaping one. The cohort format was chosen deliberately so participants build lasting professional relationships alongside the curriculum.
What "Faith-Led, Clinically Grounded" Means in Practice
Faith-led means the program draws on values-based leadership traditions — including Christian faith — as a source of durable identity and integrity. It is not a devotional or a Bible study. Clinically grounded means every leadership frame is stress-tested against the realities of the anesthesia workplace: production pressure, staffing shortages, difficult surgeons, and long call. Participants of any faith background who resonate with values-based leadership are welcome.
What is The Mindful Leadership Certification?
The Mindful Leadership Certification is a 6-month CRNA leadership program for nurse anesthesia residents and new-grad CRNAs. It is faith-led, clinically grounded, and emotionally intelligent — created and led by Amanda Kay, MSN, CRNA. The founding cohort is forming now via waitlist.
Who runs The Mindful Leadership Certification?
The certification is created and led by Amanda Kay, MSN, CRNA — a practicing certified registered nurse anesthetist and coach who founded The Mindful CRNA in 2020. Amanda leads every cohort personally.
Is this a credential recognized by the NBCRNA or a state board?
No. The Mindful Leadership Certification is an independent professional development certificate awarded by The Mindful CRNA, not a licensure credential. It does not replace NCE certification, state licensure, or NBCRNA recertification requirements.
Is this a continuing education (CEU) program?
No. The Mindful Leadership Certification is not a CEU or Class A/B credit program. It is a leadership development certification. CRNAs looking for NBCRNA-approved continuing education should refer to NBCRNA-approved CE providers.
Who is the program for?
The program is designed for nurse anesthesia residents (NARs) in the second half of their program and new-grad Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) in their first year of practice. Practicing CRNAs looking for structured leadership development may also apply.
What does "leadership certification" mean for a CRNA?
In this program, leadership certification means developing the human skills that separate a competent clinician from a trusted colleague — self-regulation under pressure, communication with surgeons and preceptors, mentoring new staff, values-based decision-making, and protecting long-term career sustainability. It is credentialed by The Mindful CRNA upon successful completion.
Is the program religious?
The program is faith-led, meaning it draws on Christian values-based leadership as one grounding tradition — but it is not a devotional, worship, or Bible study program. Participants of any faith background who resonate with values-based, character-first leadership are welcome.
What does "faith-led, clinically grounded, emotionally intelligent" mean in practice?
Faith-led means identity and integrity are treated as first-order leadership assets, not extras. Clinically grounded means every leadership frame is tested against real anesthesia workplace realities — production pressure, difficult surgeons, staffing shortages. Emotionally intelligent means the curriculum centers self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and social skill as trainable competencies.
Is the program live, self-paced, or blended?
The program is blended: live cohort calls with Amanda for teaching and discussion, plus self-paced materials (readings, exercises, and reflection prompts) between sessions. Cohort format is intentional so participants build lasting peer relationships.
How long is the program?
The Mindful Leadership Certification runs six months from cohort start to certificate award. Weekly time expectations are shared with waitlist members before enrollment opens.
When does the founding cohort start?
The founding cohort start date is being finalized. Waitlist members will receive the exact start date, application window, and pricing before any public announcement.
Is the cohort size limited?
Yes. The founding cohort is intentionally small so Amanda can be present for every participant. Waitlist members receive first access when applications open.
What does the program cost?
Founding cohort pricing has not been publicly announced. Waitlist members lock in founding-cohort pricing when applications open — historically the lowest price the program will ever be offered at.
Where is the program held?
The program is delivered online. Live cohort calls run over video so participants across the United States (and internationally, where scheduling allows) can attend.
What does the curriculum cover?
The curriculum covers identity and values as leadership foundations, nervous-system regulation under clinical pressure, communication with surgeons and preceptors, mentoring newer staff, holding boundaries in a production-first culture, and building a sustainable career. Detailed module outlines are shared with waitlist members before enrollment.
Do I receive a certificate at the end?
Yes. Participants who complete the program requirements receive The Mindful Leadership Certification — a professional development certificate awarded by The Mindful CRNA. It is not a licensure credential; it is a recognized completion certificate for the leadership curriculum.
Do I need to be a practicing CRNA to enroll?
The primary audience is nurse anesthesia residents (NARs) in the second half of their program and new-grad CRNAs in their first year of practice. Practicing CRNAs beyond the first year may apply and will be reviewed case-by-case for cohort fit.
Can current SRNAs enroll?
SRNAs in the first half of their program are typically pointed to Amanda's earlier-stage programs first (roadmap, coaching, drug drawer). NARs in the second half of their program are the sweet spot for the leadership certification.
Is there an application process?
Yes. The founding cohort is admitted by application to ensure cohort fit. Waitlist members receive the application form when the enrollment window opens.
What is expected of participants each week?
Weekly expectations include attending the live cohort call, completing the assigned reading or exercise, and participating in a small peer group. Exact weekly hours are shared with waitlist members before enrollment.
What are Amanda Kay's credentials?
Amanda Kay holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). She has been practicing as a CRNA since 2017 and coaching aspiring CRNAs and Nurse Anesthesia Residents since 2020 through The Mindful CRNA.
How long has Amanda been coaching CRNAs?
Amanda has been coaching aspiring CRNAs and Nurse Anesthesia Residents since 2020 through The Mindful CRNA coaching practice. The Mindful Leadership Certification is the culmination of five years of that mentorship work into a structured leadership curriculum.
Is this program affiliated with the NBCRNA, COA, or AANA?
No. The Mindful Leadership Certification is an independent professional development program from The Mindful CRNA. It is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or produced by the NBCRNA, the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA), the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), or any nurse anesthesia school.
Can I contact Amanda before applying?
Yes. Amanda offers a free 15-minute consult through the contact page for anyone who wants to talk through fit before joining the waitlist or applying to the founding cohort.
How is this different from board prep or interview coaching?
Board prep and interview coaching are skills-and-content programs for a specific milestone (the NCE, or a CRNA school interview). The Mindful Leadership Certification is a longer, cohort-based program about who you become as a CRNA leader over the residency-to-practice transition — separate scope, separate audience, separate outcome.
